They look unremarkable, but inside you'll find everything from valuable ores and gems to rare artifacts worth donating to the museum. This guide breaks down every Geode type, how to farm them efficiently, and how to process hundreds at once.

Step 1: Know Your Geodes and Where to Find Them
Each Geode type comes from different sources. Understanding where they drop helps you farm them efficiently:

Step 2: Open Geodes at the Blacksmith
The easiest way to open Geodes is to bring them to Clint at the Blacksmith shop in town. He charges 25g per Geode and gives you the contents instantly. If you only have a few Geodes (under 20), this is the most convenient method.
Step 3: Bulk Processing with the Geode Crusher
When you have dozens or hundreds of Geodes (especially after a Skull Cavern run), running to Clint repeatedly wastes time. The Geode Crusher solves this — craft one, place it on your farm, insert a Geode, and collect the result the next day.
Crafting recipe: 25 Stone + 1 Gold Bar + 1 Diamond. Note that each Crusher processes one Geode at a time, but you can place multiple Crushers in parallel.
Step 4: What's Inside Each Geode Type
Each Geode type has its own loot table. Here are the most valuable items from each:
Regular Geode
- Copper Ore / Iron Ore: Most common drops, useful for crafting and tool upgrades.
- Coal: Needed for many crafting recipes.
- Gold Ore: Lower drop rate but very valuable.
- Quartz, Fire Quartz, Frozen Tear, Earth Crystal: Used as gifts or crafting materials.
Frozen Geode
- Frozen Tear: Loved gift by several NPCs, used to craft Refined Quartz.
- Diamond: Low drop rate but extremely valuable.
- Iron Ore / Gold Ore: Higher quantities than regular Geodes.
Magma Geode
- Fire Quartz: Used to craft Refined Quartz, loved gift for several NPCs.

Omni Geode — The Most Valuable
- Prismatic Shard: Extremely low drop rate (~0.4%) but the rarest item in the game.

Step 5: Artifacts from Geodes and the Museum
Many Artifacts can only be found inside Geodes — especially Omni Geodes. When you receive an Artifact from a Geode, bring it to Gunther at the Museum to donate it. Each donation earns you a reward, and completing the entire collection grants a Stardrop and the Key to the Town.
Tip: If you find a duplicate Artifact (already donated), sell it or give it as a gift. Some Artifacts like the Ancient Doll and Ancient Drum are loved gifts for several NPCs.
Geode Optimization Tips
- Prioritize Omni Geodes: They can contain Prismatic Shards and rare Artifacts — process these first.
- Farm Skull Cavern deep: Floors 80+ drop Magma and Omni Geodes at higher rates. Use Staircases to descend quickly.
- Place multiple Geode Crushers: Craft 5-10 Crushers to process hundreds of Geodes overnight.
- Check Artifact Spots: The spiral-tilled dirt spots in Winter can contain Omni Geodes.
