True, you can't plant regular outdoor crops when snow covers the ground. But Stardew Valley has a Winter Seed system — and here's how to profit from it:

How to Craft Winter Seeds

Winter Seeds are crafted from foraging items collected during winter: Snow Yam, Crocus, Crystal Fruit, Holly, and Winter Root. Recipe: mix any 3 foraging items → 1 Winter Seed.

Each Winter Seed grows into a Winter Foraging Item after 7 days. Sell for 50-150g each. With 100 tiles (standard farm), you can earn 5,000-15,000g per 7-day cycle — not counting using them to craft more Winter Seeds.

Greenhouse Never Sleeps

If you've unlocked the Greenhouse, Winter doesn't affect you at all. Keep growing Ancient Fruit and processing through Kegs. This is why completing the Pantry Bundle early is the #1 priority — Greenhouse = year-round income, including Winter.

Crocus & Snow Yam — Sell Directly

If you don't want to craft Winter Seeds, sell Crocus (60g) and Snow Yam (100g) directly. Not as profitable as Ancient Fruit Wine, but zero investment — just forage and sell.

Winter Fishing — More Profitable Than You Think

Winter has the highest-priced fish pool of the year. If you've upgraded your rod to Fiberglass or Iridium, 1-2 hours of fishing earns 2,000-5,000g easily.

Highest-Value Winter Fish

Sturgeon (200g) is the most expensive winter fish — also the ingredient for Caviar (Aged Roe → 400g+). If you have a Fish Pond, raising Sturgeons is an excellent long-term profit path.

Fish Ponds — Passive Winter Income

If you've built Fish Ponds, Winter is when they really pay off. Sturgeon Ponds produce Sturgeon Roe → Aged Roe (400g+). Super Caviar (800g) with the Artisan profession. Each pond with 3-4 fish = continuous roe production.

Mining — Winter Is the Perfect Time

No crops to water, no animals to feed daily — Winter means 100% of your time can go to the Mines. Specific milestones:

• Floor 40+: Collect enough Gold Ore — preparing for Quality Sprinklers.
• Floor 80+: Iridium Ore starts appearing frequently. Needed for Iridium Pickaxe and Cellar.

Skull Cavern — Should You Go in Winter?

Yes. Skull Cavern is season-independent. If you have 50+ Iridium Bars, 100+ Staircases, and Mega Bombs, take advantage of Winter to farm. Each Skull Cavern run can bring back 50k-200k gold if you find Iridium Nodes and Mystic Stones.

Spring New Year Preparation Checklist

The last 7 days of Winter are the most important. Here's your mandatory checklist:

Finances

• At least 50,000-100,000g saved for Spring seeds (Strawberry, Cauliflower, Potato).
• Buy the Backpack upgrade if you haven't — 2,000g for 12 slots, you'll need the space for Spring foraging.
• Pay off JojaMart if you chose the Joja route (25,000g).

Farming

• Plan your Spring crop layout — Strawberry seeds (100g) available on Spring 13, plant immediately.
• Prepare Fertilizer — Basic Fertilizer (100g) for Strawberries and Cauliflower.
• If you have Junimo Huts, place them near your Strawberry field for auto-harvest.

Bundles & Community Center

• Check the Bulletin Board Bundle — if incomplete, Winter is the time to finish (Crocus, Snow Yam, Holly).
• If you chose the JojaMart route, check remaining JojaMart bundles.

• Missing Winter Foraging: Snow Yam, Crocus, Crystal Fruit — they spawn on the ground every day. A 10-minute morning walk = hundreds of free gold.
