Stardew Valley Community Center Guide Year 1

Complete the Community Center in Year 1 with this week-by-week guide. Learn exactly what to grow, fish, and buy to finish every Bundle on time.

Restoring the Community Center in Year 1 is the biggest milestone in Stardew Valley. It unlocks the Bus to Desert, Greenhouse, and many other critical areas. But without proper planning, you'll miss seasonal items and have to wait another year. This guide breaks the journey into weekly chunks so you always stay on track.

Quick Summary

The Community Center has 6 rooms with 12 Bundles total. The most important rewards are the Greenhouse (from Pantry) and Minecarts (from Boiler Room). To finish in Year 1, focus on: (1) Plant all 4 seasonal crops, (2) Upgrade to Steel Axe for Secret Woods, (3) Check Traveling Cart weekly for Red Cabbage, (4) Catch Walleye when it rains.

Spring (Day 1 – 28): The Critical Phase

Week 1 (Day 1 – 7): Getting Started

Week 2 (Day 8 – 14): Expanding

  • Day 8: Buy Green Bean Seeds (at least 1). Green Beans take 10 days to grow and produce multiple harvests.
  • Day 10-12: Start fishing. You need Sunfish, Catfish, Shad, and Tiger Trout for the River Fish Bundle.
  • Day 13: Egg Festival — buy Strawberry Seeds (the most profitable Spring crop).

Week 3 (Day 15 – 21): Speed Up

  • Day 15: Harvest Cauliflower. Check quality — the Quality Crops Bundle needs 5 GOLD-quality crops: Parsnip, Melon, Pumpkin, and Corn.
  • Day 17-18: Push deep into the Mine. You need Fire Quartz (Floor 80+), Frozen Tear (Floor 40-79), and Quartz (Floor 20-39) for the Geologist's Bundle.
  • Day 24: Flower Dance — go or skip freely. (The Dance of the Moonlight Jellies is a Summer 28 festival, not a spring one.)

Week 4 (Day 22 – 28): Wrap Up

  • Day 22-25: Harvest Green Beans and Strawberries. Make sure you have:
    • 1 Parsnip (normal quality)
    • 1 Cauliflower (normal or gold)
    • 1 Potato (normal)
    • 1 Green Bean
    • 5 Gold Star Crops (Parsnip, Melon, Pumpkin, or Corn)
  • Day 26-28: Donate everything to the Community Center. Double-check each Bundle before leaving.

Summer (Day 1 – 28): Secret Woods and Pufferfish

What to Do Right Away

  • Upgrade to Steel Axe: You need to enter Secret Woods to get Fiddlehead Fern for the Exotic Foraging Bundle. This is the most commonly forgotten item.
  • Plant at least 1 of each: Melon, Tomato, Blueberry, and Red Cabbage (if you have seeds).

Easy-to-Miss Items

  • Pufferfish: Only catchable 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM on sunny days. Season: Summer only.
  • Red Snapper: Catch when it rains, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
  • Pike: Catch in rivers anytime, but only when it rains.
  • Red Mushroom: Found in Mine Floor 80+ or Secret Woods.

Traveling Cart — Your Best Friend

Red Cabbage Seeds are the most important thing to buy from the Traveling Cart. They appear randomly, so check every Friday and Sunday. If you can't get them in Year 1, you'll have to wait until Year 2.

Fall (Day 1 – 28): The Deciding Season

Crops You Must Plant

  • Corn: Plant early — it produces continuously from Summer into Fall.
  • Pumpkin: You need Gold Star Pumpkin for the Quality Crops Bundle.
  • Yam: Needed for the Summer Crops Bundle (if you don't have it yet).
  • Eggplant: Needed for the Fall Crops Bundle.

Important Fish

  • Walleye: Only catchable when it rains. This is the easiest fish to miss. If it doesn't rain all season, use a Rain Totem.
  • Catfish: Catch in rivers when it rains. Fall is your last chance.

Winter (Day 1 – 28): Cleanup and Catch-Up

Winter is when you fix anything you missed. If you followed this guide, you'll only have a few Bundles left to complete. Focus on:

  • Fish Tank: Check which fish you're missing. Winter has Pike, Chub, and many others.
  • Vault: Make sure you have 42,500g to unlock all doors.
  • Bulletin Board: Check Cooking, Foraging, and Dyer Bundles.

Most Common Mistakes

  1. Forgetting Green Beans: They take 10 days to grow and produce multiple harvests. Plant as early as possible.
  2. Not upgrading Steel Axe: No Secret Woods = no Fiddlehead Fern = can't complete Exotic Foraging Bundle.
  3. Forgetting Red Cabbage: Traveling Cart is the only source in Year 1. Check every week.
  4. Missing Walleye: Only available when it rains. If you miss it, use a Rain Totem.
  5. Not raising animals: You need Large Milk, Large Egg, and Truffle for the Animal Bundle.

Final Tips

  • Always carry Bombs: Use them in the Mine to break rocks faster.
  • Check the Daily Planner: See which fish are available today.
  • Prioritize Boiler Room: Minecarts save you tons of travel time.
  • Don't forget NPC birthdays: Gifting on birthdays gives a huge friendship boost.

Completing the Community Center in Year 1 isn't easy, but if you follow this schedule, you'll get there. Good luck, and treat yourself to a meal at the Saloon when you're done!
